A brief explanation of Microcurrent

Loads of skincare terms are thrown around daily on the Tiky-Toks, IG, and FB, all with the promise of magic wand-like benefits to the skin. Sometimes it’s difficult to discern what these terms mean and why you would use the treatments or products. “Microcurrent” is one of these terms, so I want to talk about what it is and its purpose.

Microcurrent is the use of low electrical current to retrain the muscles of the face. Unlike the rest of the body, the skin attaches directly to the muscles in the face. So the facial muscles are susceptible to gravity due to the skin losing elasticity and tone, and ultimately pulling the facial muscles down. Microcurrent is like a gentle workout for the face, bringing blood flow to the area, stimulating elastin production, and re-toning the muscles. The results are typically immediate, and can be long-lasting (but not permanent) with multiple sessions.

In esthetician treatments, microcurrent is commonly combined with other treatments and/or products that target specific issues. In our treatment, called “The Works” and performed by Aimee, microcurrent is combined with microdermabrasion (an exfoliating procedure) and LED therapy, plus Tuel professional products, all to treat signs of aging.
